Clinton Roy Ferguson

August 21, 1939 — June 11, 2026

Clinton Roy Ferguson, loving father, grandfather, brother, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully after a short illness in La Vista, Nebraska.

Born on August 21, 1939, in Ansley, Nebraska, Clinton was the son of Roy and Vera Ferguson. Though he faced and overcame a serious illness as a child, his resilience showed early as he grew up to graduate from Ansley High School.

Following high school, Clinton answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. As a weapons mechanic at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington, he took on the critical responsibility of loading munitions on planes headed for Vietnam. During his enlistment, he married Sandra Hammel, and together they were blessed with two children, Candace and James.

After receiving an honorable discharge, Clinton returned to his Nebraska roots, making his home first in Miller and later in Aurora. He dedicated his professional life to heavy construction, working for Diamond Engineering and later Gilbert Central, a division of Kiewit. Clinton spent decades operating large cranes, leaving his mark on major infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest.

Clinton was a man who loved working with his hands, a trait that extended far beyond his career. Upon retirement, he found peace and quiet on an acreage in Sugden, Oklahoma. There, he happily spent his time tinkering on cars and mastering woodworking. Later in life, he moved to Papillion, Nebraska, to be closer to the family he loved so dearly.

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vera Ferguson, and his two wives, Sandra (Hammel) Ferguson and, later in life, MaryJo (Duke) Ferguson, a brother-in-law Wayne Nichols and a stepdaughter Sandy Harvey.

His legacy lives on through his family. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Emma Nichols (Wayne), Robert Ferguson (Judy), and Arlys Larson (Ron); his children, Candace Fickenscher (Mark) and James Ferguson; his grandchildren, Shanael Wilson (Bernie) and Gabriel Case (Justin); and his three beloved great-grandchildren, Bella Elge, Lu Elge, and Ellie Case.

Clinton is also survived and fondly remembered by his stepchildren: Willie Heavener, Brenda Riddles (Mark), Harvey Heavener, Lena White (Milton) his step-grandchildren: Shawn, Heather, Nathan, Robert, Cody, Cathy, Andy, Nellie, Amanda, Alan, Matthew, CJ and Ronnie from his second marriage, and a wonderful circle of extended family and dear friends in Oklahoma and Cedarhurst Assisted Living in LaVista who meant the world to him. A special thank you to the staff with Hillcrest Hospice and Cedarhurst Assisting Living for your dedication and care.
