David Alan McMurphy passed away April 25, 2025 in Bennington, Nebraska at the age of 60 years. He was born July 13, 1964 in Omaha, Nebraska.
David is preceded in death by his father, Robert J. McMurphy; and brothers Jeff McMurphy and Jerry McMurphy.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kimberly McMurphy; children Robert (Kiley) McMurphy and Shane (Allie) Haley; mother Caroline McMurphy; grandson RJ Awender; and nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
Dave grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, alongside his mother, father, and two brothers. He attended Benson High School and famously found his way into a special farm school, despite not being officially enrolled. Dave had snuck onto the bus one day and quickly became part of the farm school community. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Dave made many lifelong friends who remained close to him throughout his life. Dave graduated from Benson High in 1983
Dave met Kim in high school. He picked her up for their first date in his mom's Thunderbird, and by their second date, he was proudly behind the wheel of his iconic 1969 Chevy van. Their love grew quickly, and they were married on May 4, 1985.
Dave and Kim were truly the loves of each other's lives. Kim fondly remembers their first kiss, describing it as feeling like fireworks. Together, they built a beautiful life, not just as partners, but as best friends. Though they were opposites in many ways, it made them perfectly compatible, Dave was the social butterfly, and Kim was often his steady voice of reason. Throughout the years, they created countless memories with their family and friends, filling their lives with laughter, love, and connection.
In November of 1990, Dave and Kim welcomed their first son, Robert. Robert fondly remembers his dad as his favorite golfing partner, always bringing great music to the course. Dave shared his love of Husker football with Robert, and together they spent many Saturdays cheering on the Huskers. One of Robert's most cherished memories is having his dad attend his wedding to Kiley in September 2024 - and seeing the look of pure surprise on Dave's face when he realized it was a surprise wedding.
In July of 1997, Dave and Kim welcomed their second son, Shane. Some of Shane's favorite memories are the simple moments spent with his dad - hanging out in the garage, listening to great music, and watching Nebraska storms roll through. Dave also coached Shane's softball team when he was younger, and Shane always loved seeing his dad cheering him on from the sidelines. One memory Shane will forever hold close is the dance he shared with his dad at his wedding to Allie in 2021.
Dave was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. We invite you to join us in celebrating his incredible life. Details are below.
