Gene D. Evans, born on October 6, 1949, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on April 22, 2025, at home in Omaha, Nebraska.
Gene graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. From 1968 to 1972, Gene served honorably in the United States Air Force. Following military service, he pursued a career in banking and finance.
Gene married Connie Towse on December 5, 1975 in Ponca City. Gene and Connie relocated to Omaha, Nebraska in 1998.
Throughout his life, Gene remained active in civic life and contributed to several organizations. Among these was the Ponca City Noon AMBUCS, where Gene found meaningful ways to give back to the community.
Gene is lovingly remembered by his wife Connie; daughters Christy Flattery of Walsenburg, Colorado and Carrie Phillips (Kenny Walters) of Elkhorn; and grandson Hayden Flattery of Omaha. Gene is also remembered by brother Gary Evans of Norman, Oklahoma; sister Cathy Hulsey (Dean) of Lake Havasu, Arizona; brother Roger (Lori) Evans of Twin Falls, Idaho; and sister Tammy Evans of Buena Vista, Colorado. Gene's extended family includes sister-in-laws Rebecca Diebold (Eddie) and Jeanelle (Jerry) Wirtz of Ponca City, Oklahoma as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by father Robert L. Evans; mother Helen J. Evans Laughrey; father-in-law Lyle E. Towse; and mother-in-law Shirley A. Towse-all of Ponca City.
Although no service will be held at this time, Gene will be laid to rest at a later date at the Omaha National Cemetery.
