Genevieve Hrdy

March 17, 1922 — May 25, 2025

Genevieve Hrdy, 103 years and 70 days old, passed away on May 25, 2025, in Papillion, NE. She was born on March 17, 1922 in Prague, NE to Emil & Fannie (Kratky) Texel.

Genevieve (Texel) married George Hrdy on August 10, 1942. Genevieve met George at the Texel family cafe in South Omaha, NE. Genevieve was tasked with closing up the cafe at night and getting ready for the breakfast crowd. George was concerned that Genevieve would have to walk home alone in the middle of night, so he started "hanging around" and helped do the dishes after closing, while Genevieve prepped the cafe for the next morning. When it was time to head home, George would walk Genevieve to her house to make sure she got there safely. After this went on for some time, George asked Genevieve to marry him. She said yes! During their 66 years of marriage they loved one another deeply and were certainly the love of each other's lives. All that time they lived in the same house on the corner of 23rd and Washington Streets in South Omaha. The couple had their only child, Glenn R. Hrdy, in December of 1947.

Genevieve was best known for her love of travel, gardening, cooking, canning, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, journaling, reading the Bible, spending time with family and friends, especially her only grandson, Brandon, her sense of humor and infectious laugh, and her deep love and devotion to Jehovah God.

Genevieve is survived by, grandson Brandon Hrdy, grand-daughter-in-law Katherine Hrdy, great grandsons Henry and Harrison Philipp, daughter-in-law Linda (Knudsen) Hrdy, sister-in-laws Norma Hrdy and Beverly Hrdy, niece Lorene Haynes and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Genevieve is preceded in death by pretty much everyone, but specifically her loving husband George Hrdy and son Glenn Hrdy; brother Emil Texel; sisters Lorene Texel, Wilma Todorovich, Lillian Stutz, Lucille Jarosik, and Arlene Danielson; and too many friends and family to mention.

The service for Genevieve will be held on June 7, 2025, 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 4928 S 39 St., Omaha, NE 68107.
