Jerome K. Dodson, 62, of North Platte, died Monday, April 20, 2026 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha following a battle with cancer.

A private graveside service will lay Jerry to rest in the Plainville Cemetery, Maxwell Nebraska alongside other family members. Being with us in spirit and prayers is most welcome.

Born Jerome Kevin Dodson, in North Platte, Nebraska to Walter (Bill) and Norma Dodson. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Dodson and brother Joseph (Joe) Dodson. He is survived by his daughter Kayla (Nick) Curry, grandsons Noah and Nathan Curry, three sisters: Mary (Bill) Kranz, Cynthia (Vince) Vento, and Victoria (Pete) Crawford, along with five nieces, three nephews and many cousins and friends.

Jerome, known to family and friends as Jerry, "Big Jer" and "hey Big Brother" enjoyed a childhood of summers at Lake Maloney. Jerry loved stamp collecting, water sports, fishing and hunting and was very proficient at all of them in his day. Jerry was raised in the St. Patrick's Church and school system from First Grade to Graduation in 1982. Jerry continued his education on a full scholarship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and then returned to North Platte where he married Laura (Herbst) Dugger. For a time, he and his wife and daughter lived in California where Jerry was hundreds of feet in the air assembling energy windmills. Jerry returned to North Platte and settled into a profession of carpentry and drywalling. Jerry raised many a 12 ft sheet of drywall in the construction and expansion of North Platte. Jerry was all things Nebraska; a dedicated and loyal fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and loved North Platte so much that once he returned, he could never be talked into leaving again.

Jerry was a gentle natured man, with a loving heart and a kindness towards all; when life no longer allowed him the joys of fishing, hunting and hard labor he enjoyed people and got the most joy out of sitting with friends and having a good drink and reminiscing. He kept life simple, never wanting or expecting much. He will be missed!
