Mark Carmen Lamer

Mark C. Lamer, 64, of Carter Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Mark was born on October 7, 1961, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of George and Betty (Boncci) Lamer. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and spent the majority of his career as a dedicated, longtime truck driver. Mark was a lifelong resident of Carter Lake, devoting much of his life to the community he proudly called home and considered family.

Mark had a passion for speed and a love for anything with an engine. He took great pride in his #55 stock race car, spending countless hours working on it and racing at local tracks, including I-80 Speedway and Shelby County Speedway. When he wasn’t behind the wheel, he was often on his Harley-Davidson Dyna, enjoying the open road and the freedom that came with it. Whether on two wheels or four, Mark was happiest when the engine was roaring.

Above all, Mark was a hardworking, tough-as-nails kind of guy with a big heart. He was strong-willed, dependable, loyal, and never afraid to get his hands dirty. Behind his rough exterior was a generous man who would help anyone without hesitation and never expect anything in return. If someone needed him, Mark was there, no questions asked. He was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mark is survived by his beloved spouse, Lynn Carlson; his children, Steven Lamer and Tanner (Delores) Lamer; his stepson, James (Emily) Carlson; his grandchildren, Bryce, Rylee, and Liam Lamer, and Aurora, Ares, Owen, Quentin, and James Jr. Carlson; his sister, Cindy (Robert) Knass; his beloved dog, Lola; and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty (Boncci) Lamer, and his brother, Larry (Jane) Lamer.

Mark’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, and caregivers who provided compassionate care and support during his final days.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on September 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Lake Improvement Club, 4328 N. 9th St., Carter Lake, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to help with Mark’s final expenses and the ongoing needs of his family.

A Benefit Dinner for Mark will be held on September 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Lake Improvement Club. Proceeds will go toward supporting Mark’s family.
