Mary Justene Martin
July 16, 1941 — April 23, 2018
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Justene Martin, age 76 of Clarinda, IA on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 1pm at the Gravity Community Center, Gravity, IA. Justene died on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Lunch will be provided at the service.
Justene was born in Gravity, IA on July 16, 1941, the daughter of Darrell and Mary Sollars. She attended school in Gravity and was in the last class to graduate from the Gravity High School before they closed it. She was united in marriage on October 6, 1962 to Larry Martin in Omaha, NE. and from this union six children were born. She attended Cosmetology School in Shenandoah, IA and always said that God put that school there just so she could attend it. Justene was a hairdresser in Gravity for many years and later opened a shop in Clarinda, IA. She worked for a brief time as the Activity Coordinator at Bedford Nursing Home. She was also a Poet and published a few short ebooks and made some of her own books from the daily devotionals she did.
She attended Revelation Light of Jesus Christ in Bedford, IA for 30+ years and was very proud of the fact that she was in the beginning bible studies that later became the church. She felt she was called to bring the kingdom of God to widows and orphans. And although we're not sure she realized it, her life was a reflection of that. Everywhere she went she ministered that God loved you and wanted a relationship with you. She had many "widows & orphans" who loved her, inside and outside of the church!! She had such creative talent she could make something beautiful out of just whatever she had laying around. She loved to take little road trips with her daughters and making people laugh was her greatest medicine. The poems she wrote always shocked people at how she could capture someone's personality by praying and letting the pen flow without even knowing the person. All that she was will be missed by many!!
Justene is survived by her six children, Jeff Martin of Lenox, IA, Judy Alioth and husband Denny of Sioux City, IA, Joe Martin of Clarinda, IA, Julie Petersen of Kansas City, KS, James Martin and wife Brenda of Gravity, IA, and Jeremy Martin and wife Ashley of St Joseph, MO; her mother Mary Sollars of Richmond, MO and her brother Bob Sollars and wife Patty also of Richmond, MO; 17 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren
Proceeding Justene in death are her husband Larry Martin, father Darrell Sollars, brother Sam Sollars and grandson Derik Martin.
