Mary Catherine (Sowokinos) Samson

Mary Catherine Samson passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 74. She is preceded in death by parents, Harriette and Otto Sowokinos. Mary is survived by her son Matthew (Sabrina) Wichser, grandchildren Lily and James of South Jordan, Utah; lifelong friends Patti Alexander, Sharon McCauley, and cousin Polly (Rak) Burns; along with numerous friends, family and co-workers.

Mary will be remembered as an avid reader, someone who had a deep affection for animals, for her kindness, sense of humor, but mostly, for her lifelong commitment to the people and pets she cared about the most. She had the ability to find contentment in the simple joys of life. In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal service. Family and friends would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the care she received from St. Croix Hospice in Omaha, along with everyone at the Douglas County Health Center, who dedicated themselves to offering her care, friendship and support every step of the way. Mary’s presence and friendship will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
