Melvin Eugene Mack, 69, of Cope, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska. Known to friends and family as 'Mel,' he was surrounded by those he loved most at the time of his passing.
Mel was born on September 20, 1956 in Flagler, Colorado. The son of Richard (a retired Navy mechanic and farmer) and Faye (a nurse and homemaker), Mel spent his early years helping his dad farm and his mom at the restaurant, while also playing sports and singing in the choir. He attended Arickaree School, where he met his wife of almost 50 years, Barb (Baker).
Barb and Mel dated through high school and were married on June 25, 1977. They built a family in Cope, CO where they farmed for 25 years and raised their daughter, Anya and later had a big part in raising Isaiah O'Kane in the ways of farm life. Mel was a well-known farmer in eastern Colorado doing custom harvesting, trucking, and selling equipment. He grew wheat, corn, proso, and sunflowers and enjoyed working with many people in the area during harvest times. He could be seen in a tractor, combine, semi, or pickup on any given day, with a beloved pet by his side.
Mel enjoyed attending all of Anya's sporting and school events. He and Barb never missed any of them, and traveled all around Colorado for her club volleyball tournaments, basketball camps, and singing performances. When Anya went to college they traveled to watch her college volleyball matches around the country, while helping Isaiah get through High school and into diesel mechanic school.
He was involved with Young Farmers and enjoyed the friends he made through that time. He attended many national Young Farmers events and conventions over the years. He loved going to Denver and visiting his brother, sister, and nieces or talking on the phone with them. He was an avid Avalanche, Rockies, Nuggets, and Broncos fan, and even attended a Broncos Super Bowl. He collected sports memorabilia and farm toys. He loved listening to music, attending concerts, and was always heard singing wherever music was playing.
After surviving a Traumatic Brain Injury he was able to focus on being a husband, dad, and Papa to his 4 grandbabies, whom he loved dearly. He was a lover of animals, playing games, and laughing with his grandkids. He enjoyed driving around and getting to know people and talking to his friends and family on the phone.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents (Richard and Faye), his sister (Dolly Strick), and his brother (Charles).
He is survived by his loyal and loving wife, Barb, his daughter, Anya (Josué), and his dear grandchildren, Alayna, Adele, Josiah, and Amelia.
Graveside service will take place at 1:00 PM at the Cope Community Cemetery in Cope, CO with a reception following at the Cope Community Rec Center. Please join us in fellowship and to share stories and memories of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend.
