Mianna L Thornton

Mianna Thornton (Minnie), 91, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Council Bluffs, IA.

Mianna Thornton was born on August 28, 1934 in Scribner, NE, to Roger Rase and Viola Wegner Rase.Mianna graduated from Benson High School in Omaha in 1952 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska. She worked as an operating room nurse and as a supervisor of surgery at Jennie Edmundson for 21 years. She went on to work at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for the remainder of her career.

Mianna married Kenneth Thornton on June 20, 1958 in Omaha. The couple had two children, Eric Thornton of Iowa City, and Kent Thornton of Council Bluffs.

Mianna was best known for her great cooking and hosted Thanksgiving dinner every year. She was a master seamstress and won awards for her sewing. Minnie loved ro travel and through the course of her life visited all 50 states. She was an active member of the Association for Operating Room Nurses, at one point holding the office of national president.

Mianna is survived by her son Eric Thornton and wife Krista Thornton of Iowa City and son Kent Thornton of Council Bluffs. She is also survived by two grandchildren Sean (Heidi) Thornton, and Kelsey (Brian) Vincent and one great grandchild, Knox Vincent, all of North Liberty, Iowa.
