Pete came to the United States in 1964 and spent most of his life in Nebraska. On April 26, 1980, he married the love of his life, Sherry, and together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage, family, laughter, and adventure.
In September 2024, Pete was diagnosed with lung cancer. After a courageous battle, he overcame it, but complications from treatment later affected his lung health. In March 2026, he was admitted to Nebraska Medical Center, where he fought hard until his passing.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Erika Grant.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Thorau; daughters, Nikki (Ryan Slavicek) Thorau, Erika (Nicholas Bergsten) Thorau, and Haylie Thorau; son, Blaze Thorau; grandchildren, Gage Pierre Slavicek and Izzy Bergsten; brothers, Tommy (Beth) Grant, Michael (Kathy) Grant and Paul (Jamie) Grant; sisters, Denise (Joe) Kunz and Peggy Grant; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Pete enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing poker, and going to the casino. He and Sherry loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, enjoying their camper in Minnesota, and cheering on Husker football while attending games and tailgating together. Pete also had a special love for rock and roll music, especially AC/DC, and he was well known for playing a mean air guitar on the steering wheel.
Pete will be remembered for his strength, his love for his family, his sense of humor, and the simple advice he gave when asked the secret to a long and happy marriage: "Yes Dear."
