Rachel Belle Boshnyak September 30, 1923 - January 28, 2019 Rachel Belle Boshnyak, 95, of Carter Lake, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 28, 2019. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Journal and Christie King.

In 1941, she graduated from Cass Tech High School and then worked at S.S. Kresge department store. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Rachel enlisted in the SPARS, the womens auxiliary of the U.S. Coast Guard. She completed boot camp and Storekeeper School in CGTS Palm Beach, Florida and was stationed at MBTS Brooklyn, NY and CGB Washington, DC. She achieved the rank of First-Class Petty Officer (SK1C).

After the war, she married Richard Boshnyak and they raised four children. Throughout her life, she served within her community and at church, and was always eager to help any way she could. Before retirement, she worked at K-Mart as an advertising manager. She loved to bowl, play card games, and was virtually unbeatable at SCRABBLE. Always a go-getter, she dazzled everyone by parachuting out of an airplane on her 80th birthday!

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Richard Boshnyak, two brothers, Gunnar Beseth and Lauren King, two sisters, Lorraine McCabe and Geraldine Duchesneau, a son, Larry Boshnyak, and a beloved granddaughter.

Survivors include her daughter Janis Davies (Ted) of Grant, Michigan, son Michael Boshnyak (Denise) of Allegan, Michigan, daughter-in-law Lila Boshnyak of Wyoming, Michigan, and daughter Diane Terry (Rex) of Carter Lake, Iowa as well as ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial service: February 7, 2019, 4:00 p.m., First Christian Church, 20794 IA-92, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51503. Burial service: March 23, 2019, 12:00 noon, Forest Lawn Cemetery, 11851 Van Dyke Street, Detroit, MI 48234.
