Loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at his Louisville, NE home on April 18, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. Warren was born in Beach, North Dakota to Carl and Lilly Ueckert. He cherished his memories of growing up on the farm, having family picnics, berry picking, singing, and playing cards. He attended Little Beaver School, a one room country schoolhouse. He graduated from North Dakota State University with a major in mathematics. He taught high school math in Bisbee, AZ. He said this is where "he grew up" and accepted the call to serve the Lord. He went to Concordia Theological Seminary Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Springfield, Illinois. He served churches in Peoria, Illinois, Long Beach, CA and Flagstaff, AZ. He retired in 2014. In 2016 Warren and Catherine moved to Nebraska to be part of his grandchildrens lives. Warren said he was "born to be a grandfather."
Warren is survived by his wife Catherine (Wilcoxson), daughters: Shelly, Angela, and Pamela, and Catherines sons: Blaine (Penny) Wilcoxson and Erik (Angela) Wilcoxson; and nine very special grandchildren: Tyler, Mikayla (Jacob), Morgan, Barrett, Audrey, Alex, Helena, Thomas and Kyon; sisters: Rita (Norm) Gilfillan and Gayle (Steve) Sprenger; brother-in-laws: Gary (Rhonda) Thies and Dean (Kim) Thies and sister-in-law Sue (Dan) Steinbach; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lilly (Wojahn) Ueckert, brother, Ron Ueckert, uncle Floyd and aunt Ida Braden, uncle Jim Ueckert, in-law Alvin and Myra Thies and uncle Eldon and aunt Eva Thies.
Warren said "the Lord has blessed him with a good life" He enjoyed running, hiking, snowshoeing, music, fishing, and camping. He hiked over 700 miles in the Grand Canyon. He was honored to play in the praise band at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Warren was always looking for a country road he had not traveled on.
Warrens life was guided by the book of Ecclesiastes. The words of Solomon guided his interactions with others. He had the unique ability to bring out the best in people. He could make friends with anyone. He accepted people for who they were. Before responding to a situation he would ask, "What good will come of it?"
He had an amazing ability to create furniture out of alligator juniper and manzanita. Unique pieces of furniture were sought out throughout Arizona.
The family would like to thank Pastor Gary Werling, St. Croix Hospice, family, friends, and neighbors for their loving kindness and caring support.
Memorial Service will be held 10:30 am on May 4, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 11204 S 204th Street, Gretna, NE 68028.
In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials as Warren wished - An outdoor bench for the church preschool and Lutheran Family Services.
