Donald Earl Nelson

Donald Earl Nelson, of Lincoln, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday March 21, 2021 at the age of 95 in Omaha's Methodist hospital.
Don was born February 06, 1926 in Lincoln to Sanford and Kathryn (McEveny) Nelson. After graduation from Lincoln High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, seeing action in the Pacific theater. Upon return, Don attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He also began working at the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company, where he held several staff and management positions before retiring in 1989 after over 42 years.
In August 1948 he married Evelyn Daharsh at Vine Congregational church, where they continued as members. Don loved sports and being outdoors, particularly spending time at their cabin near Fremont with his family. He served many years as the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 8, leading numerous camping adventures and earning the organization's Silver Beaver award. He was a long time active member of the Sunrise Optimist club.
Don is survived by his wife Evelyn, sons Duayne (Jami Eirick) and Dennis (Lesli Nesmith), grandchildren Benjamin, Lindsay, Angela and Ethan, and great-grandchildren Reagan, Piper and Beck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth and Sanford, sister Alva Kareen Stoll, and an infant daughter.
Memorials can be sent to the family.
A gathering to celebrate Don's life and memories will be held this summer.
