Virginia Gerhardt

July 7, 1958 — December 11, 2021

On December 11, 2021, Virginia L. Gerhardt was called to heaven to receive her wings.

She was born July 7, 1958, to the late Eldon (Joe) and Marilyn Gerhardt. Virginia was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. She attended Lincoln Elementary in Waterloo, IA until 1967 when the family relocated to Omaha, NE.

She graduated from Northwest High School in 1976 where she was on the N-Squad her senior year. She attended college at UNL and UNO where she received her bachelor's degree in 1981 and her Masters in 1993. In 2007 she received the Alice Buffet Outstanding Teacher Award. Virginia worked many years teaching in the Omaha Public School district. She loved working with the children and was very generous to her students over the years. She retired her teaching career in 2017.

Virginia was an extremely hard worker. She started her first job at Bishops Buffet at Westroads Mall, where her dad (Joe) was the food manager. Even with her career as a full-time teacher, she worked many part-time jobs in the evening and all weekend. Even though Virginia worked 7 days a week she still found time to get dinner with friends and spend time with her family. Virginia enjoyed taking her nieces and nephews to places such as the zoo, out to eat, shopping, etc. When the great nieces and nephews came along, she loved taking them places as well, such as the Children's Museum, zoo, out to eat, and The Rose Theater for many plays. Virginia felt that spending time with family and friends was very important and loved every minute of it. In 1996 she went to the Fiesta Bowl with her dad (Joe) and her friends. Virginia was a major Husker fan (GO BIG RED)!

Virginia was proceeded in death by her parents Eldon (Joe) and Marilyn Gerhardt, Grandparents, Sisters Valorie Clark and Vicki Gerhardt, and nephew Joshua Hintz.
She is survived by sisters Vanessa (David) Hagar and Valetta (Kyle) Warden. 9 nieces, 4 nephews, many great nieces, nephews, and 1 great niece. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family as they are working to carry out Virginia's wishes.
